Volunteer With Us

Smiles, stories, and shared moments — it’s all part of volunteering at Hospice

It’s not just what you give — it’s what you gain.

At Albany Community Hospice, our volunteers are integral to our palliative care services, working as part of a multidisciplinary team to support individuals with life-limiting illnesses, as well as their families and/or carers.

Our volunteers play an essential role in supporting the daily operations of Albany Community Hospice. From welcoming families and visitors, providing companionship and emotional support, and helping prepare home-cooked meals, to supporting our Butterflies Op Shop, their contributions make a meaningful difference every day. By supporting both our care services and operational activities, volunteers help us deliver the compassionate, person-centred care for which our Hospice is known.

Our volunteer positions include:

Catering Assistants

Assist our Catering Coordinator in preparing and serving nutritious, home-cooked meals for patients. Volunteers help present daily menu choices, gather feedback and special meal requests, and contribute to a welcoming dining experience that supports patients' comfort, wellbeing, and enjoyment.

Patient Support

Provide companionship and emotional support to patients and families at Albany Community Hospice. Volunteers help create a warm, compassionate environment by spending time with patients, sharing conversations, offering a friendly afternoon cuppa, and fostering meaningful connections that enhance comfort and wellbeing.

Reception

Help create a warm and welcoming experience for everyone who visits Albany Community Hospice. As a Reception volunteer, you will greet visitors, provide directions and assistance, answer phone calls, and support staff with light administrative tasks. Your role helps ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of Hospice and a positive experience for patients, families, and visitors.

Butterflies Op Shop

Support Albany Community Hospice by volunteering at our Butterflies Op Shop. Volunteers assist with sorting and displaying donated items, serving customers, and maintaining a welcoming and organised retail environment. Through these efforts, volunteers help generate essential funds for Hospice services while fostering valuable connections within the community.

Complimentary Therapy

Support the wellbeing of patients through the provision of complementary therapy services. Volunteers with relevant qualifications help deliver therapies that complement our care approach, supporting patients' emotional, physical, and spiritual wellbeing and contributing to an enhanced quality of life.
